Presidential Elections
(Voting) (Amendment)
Regulations 2023
In exercise of the powers conferred by section 81 of the Presidential Elections Act 1991, the Prime Minister makes the following Regulations:
Citation and commencement
1.—(1)  These Regulations are the Presidential Elections (Voting) (Amendment) Regulations 2023 and, except for regulation 5(a) and (b), come into operation on 13 June 2023.
(2)  Regulation 5(a) and (b) is deemed to have come into operation on 31 December 2021.
Amendment of regulation 1
2.  In the Presidential Elections (Voting) Regulations 2017 (G.N. No. S 267/2017) (called in these Regulations the principal Regulations), in regulation 1, replace “(Voting)” with “(Polling Stations)”.
New regulation 1A
3.  In the principal Regulations, after regulation 1, insert —
Application
1A.—(1)  The application of these Regulations to or in relation to a special polling station is subject to any modifications made by regulations made under section 30C of the Act.
(2)  The application of these Regulations to or in relation to an overseas polling station is subject to any modifications made by regulations made under section 36F of the Act.”.
New regulation 2A
4.  In the principal Regulations, after regulation 2, insert —
Number of polling agents in polling station
2A.  For the purposes of section 22(6) of the Act, the maximum number of polling agents of each candidate that may be admitted to a polling station is to be calculated as follows:
(a)take the number of electors allotted to the polling station under section 18(1)(c) or 30B(1) of the Act or section 13A(3A) of the Parliamentary Elections Act 1954, as the case may be;
(b)divide the number mentioned in paragraph (a) by 1,000;
(c)round up the result of paragraph (b) to the next whole number.”.
Amendment of Schedule
5.  In the principal Regulations, in the Schedule —
(a)after “PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS ACT”, insert “1991”;
(b)delete “(CHAPTER 240A)”; and
(c)replace “(VOTING)” with “(POLLING STATIONS)”.
