Presidential Elections
(Exemption from section 65(1)(d) and (2))
(Amendment) Regulations 2023
In exercise of the powers conferred by sections 65(9) and 81 of the Presidential Elections Act 1991, the Prime Minister makes the following Regulations:
Citation and commencement
1.—(1)  These Regulations are the Presidential Elections (Exemption from section 65(1)(d) and (2)) (Amendment) Regulations 2023 and, except for regulation 5, come into operation on 1 July 2023.
(2)  Regulation 5 is deemed to have come into operation on 31 December 2021.
Amendment of regulation 1
2.  In the Presidential Elections (Exemption from section 65(1)(d) and (2)) Regulations 2011 (G.N. No. S 446/2011) (called in these Regulations the principal Regulations), in regulation 1, replace “65(1)(d)” with “65(1)(c)”.
Amendment of regulation 2
3.  In the principal Regulations, in regulation 2 —
(a)in the definition of “assembly centre”, replace “32A(5)” with “36E(1)”; and
(b)delete the definitions of “banner” and “poster”.
Amendment of regulation 3
4.  In the principal Regulations, in regulation 3 —
(a)in the regulation heading, replace “65(1)(d)” with “65(1)(c)”;
(b)replace “65(1)(d)” with “65(1)(c)”;
(c)replace “or his” with “or the candidate’s”;
(d)replace paragraph (a) with —
(a)the public display of traditional election advertising;”; and
(e)in paragraph (b), replace “election posters and banners” with “traditional election advertising”.
Miscellaneous amendments
5.  In the principal Regulations, in regulation 2 —
(a)in the definition of “permanent resident”, replace “(Cap. 133)” with “1959”; and
(b)in the definition of “work pass”, replace “(Cap. 91A)” with “1990”.
