Central Provident Fund Act
(Chapter 36)
Central Provident Fund (Dependants’ Protection Insurance Scheme) (Amendment) Regulations 1999
In exercise of the powers conferred by section 51 of the Central Provident Fund Act, the Minister for Manpower hereby makes the following Regulations:
Citation and commencement
1.  These Regulations may be cited as the Central Provident Fund (Dependants’ Protection Insurance Scheme) (Amendment) Regulations 1999 and shall come into operation on 1st December 1999.
Amendment of regulation 3
2.  Regulation 3 of the Central Provident Fund (Dependants’ Protection Insurance Scheme) Regulations (Rg 19) is amended —
(a)by inserting, immediately after the word “Fund” in the 2nd line of paragraph (2), the words “including the premium discount which the member is entitled to under regulation 5, if any,”;
(b)by deleting paragraph (3); and
(c)by inserting, immediately after paragraph (4), the following paragraph:
(5)  Notwithstanding paragraphs (2) and (4), where the insured person is entitled to a premium discount, he shall be insured for an additional insured sum as determined by the Board based on the amount of the premium discount which he is entitled to, subject to the maximum insured sum of $36,000.”.
New regulation 6A
3.  The Central Provident Fund (Dependants’ Protection Insurance Scheme) Regulations are amended by inserting, immediately after regulation 6, the following regulation:
Refund of premium where suicide or deliberate self-injury occurs within one year of insurance cover
6A.  Where the Board is exempted from making any payment to any member under the Scheme by section 49(4)(a) of the Act, the Board shall refund to that member or his estate by crediting to his account in the Fund an amount which represents the premium which had been paid by the member under the Scheme, as determined by the Board.”.
