(Halal Certificates) (Amendment)
Rules 2012
In exercise of the powers conferred by section 88C of the Administration of Muslim Law Act, the Majlis Ugama Islam, Singapura, with the approval of the Minister for Communications and Information, charged with the responsibility for the portfolio of the Minister for Culture, Community and Youth relating to Muslim affairs, hereby makes the following Rules:
Citation and commencement
1.  These Rules may be cited as the Administration of Muslim Law (Halal Certificates) (Amendment) Rules 2012 and shall come into operation on 19th November 2012.
Amendment of rule 2
2.  Rule 2 of the Administration of Muslim Law (Halal Certificates) Rules (R 8) (referred to in these Rules as the principal Rules) is amended by inserting, immediately after the definition of “catering establishment”, the following definition:
“ “Government school” has the same meaning as in section 2 of the Education Act (Cap. 87);”.
Amendment of rule 3
3.  Rule 3(2) of the principal Rules is amended by deleting the words “under section 88A(1) of the Act” and substituting the words “, or upon the grant of approval to use a specified halal certification mark, under section 88A of the Act”.
Deletion and substitution of Schedule
4.  The Schedule to the principal Rules is deleted and the following Schedule substituted therefor:

5.Operation of a product processing facility:
 
 
(a)issue of a halal certificate for a period of one year for any premises not exceeding 200 square metres

(b)issue of a halal certificate for a period of one year for any premises exceeding 200 square metres but not exceeding 750 square metres

(c)issue of a halal certificate for a period of one year for any premises exceeding 750 square metres but not exceeding 2,000 square metres

(a)issue of a halal certificate for a period of one year for any restaurant with a total floor area not exceeding 186 square metres

(c)issue of a halal certificate for a period of one year for any food or hawker stall or any stall selling uncooked food

Transitional provision
5.  Rule 4 shall apply to the issue of any halal certificate by the Majlis on or after 19th November 2012, notwithstanding that the application for the halal certificate is made before that date.
