(Amendment) Rules 2019

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 27 of the Singapore Academy of Law Act, the Senate of the Singapore Academy of Law makes the following Rules:

Citation and commencement

1. These Rules are the Singapore Academy of Law (Amendment) Rules 2019 and come into operation on 1 October 2019.

Amendment of rule 2

2. Rule 2 of the Singapore Academy of Law Rules (R 1) (called in these Rules the principal Rules) is amended —

(a)

by deleting the definition of “Faculty”; and

(b)

by deleting the definition of “School” and substituting the following definition:

“ “Notarial Certificate” means a Notarial Certificate issued and signed by a notary public under rule 8 of the Notaries Public Rules (Cap. 208, R 1);”.

Deletion of rule 11A

3. Rule 11A of the principal Rules is deleted.

New rules 12 and 13

4. The principal Rules are amended by inserting, immediately after rule 11, the following rules:

“Authentication of Notarial Certificate

12.—(1) The authentication by the Academy of a Notarial Certificate —

(a)	certifies the valid appointment of the notary public, who issued the Notarial Certificate, under the Notaries Public Act (Cap. 208); and
(b)	authenticates the notary public’s signature on the Notarial Certificate, based on information in the register of notaries public maintained under rule 6 of the Notaries Public Rules.

(2) A Notarial Certificate is authenticated by affixing to the back of the Notarial Certificate, a sticker that must —

(a)	be issued by the Academy;
(b)	be sealed with a seal of the pattern set out in the First Schedule;
(c)	contain the name and signature of an authorised signatory of the Academy; and
(d)	contain the date on which the authentication took place.

13. The fee payable to the Academy for the authentication of the signature of a notary public under rule 12(1)(b) is $85.60.”.

Amendment of First Schedule

5. The First Schedule to the principal Rules is amended by deleting the Schedule reference and substituting the following Schedule reference:

“Rule 12(2)(b)”.

Deletion of Second Schedule

6. The Second Schedule to the principal Rules is deleted.
