Employment of Foreign Workers Act

(CHapter 91A)

Employment of Foreign Workers (Levy) (Amendment No. 3) Order 1998

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 11(1) of the Employment of Foreign Workers Act, the Minister for Manpower hereby makes the following Order:

Citation and commencement

1. This Order may be cited as the Employment of Foreign Workers (Levy) (Amendment No. 3) Order 1998 and shall come into operation on 1st January 1999.

Amendment of paragraph 2

2. Paragraph 2 of the Employment of Foreign Workers (Levy) Order (O 1, 1998 Ed.) is amended by inserting, immediately after the definition of “foreign manufacturing worker”, the following definition:

“ “grass-cutter” means any person who is employed in, or in connection with, the cutting of grass, trimming of trees and plants and removing of dead or diseased grass, trees or plants;”.

Amendment of paragraph 3

3. Paragraph 3 of the Employment of Foreign Workers (Levy) Order is amended —

(a)

by deleting “$13” in the fourth line of sub-paragraph (9) and substituting “$10”;

(b)

by deleting “$400” in sub-paragraph (13)(b)(i) and substituting “$310”;

(c)

by deleting “$14” in sub-paragraph (13)(b)(ii) and substituting “$11”;

(d)

by deleting “$330” in the following sub-paragraphs and substituting in each case “$240”:

Sub-paragraphs (2) (2nd line), (11)(a), (14) (6th line), (14)(a), (15)(a) (4th line), (18) (2nd and last lines), (19) and (24A)(a);

(e)

by deleting “$11” in the following sub-paragraphs and substituting in each case “$8”:

Sub-paragraphs (2) (5th line), (11)(b), (14)(b), (15)(b), (18) (4th line) and (24A)(b);

(f)

by deleting “$100” in the following sub-paragraphs and substituting in each case “$30”:

Sub-paragraphs (4) (2nd and last lines), (6), (6B), (7B), (8) (2nd and last lines), (10), (10B), (17) (2nd and last lines), (19), (19B), (22)(a) and (b) (last line) and (25) (5th line);

(g)

by deleting “$4” in the following sub-paragraphs and substituting in each case “$1”:

Sub-paragraphs (4) (4th line), (8) (4th line), (17) (4th line), (22)(b) (2nd line) and (25) (7th line);

(h)

by deleting “$440” in the following sub-paragraphs and substituting in each case “$350”:

Sub-paragraphs (21)(a) and (b) and (23)(a) and (b) (last line);

(i)

by deleting “$385” in the second and last lines of sub-paragraph (9) and in sub-paragraph (10) and substituting in each case “$295”;

(j)

by deleting “$15” in sub-paragraph (21)(b) and in the second line of sub-paragraph (23)(b) and substituting in each case “$12”;

(k)

by inserting, immediately after sub-paragraph (26), the following sub-paragraph:

“Grass-cutters

(27) The levy payable in respect of any grass-cutter shall be —

(a)	at the rate of $350 for each calendar month; and
(b)	where any grass-cutter is employed for part of a month, at the rate of $12 for each day during which the grass-cutter is employed in that month subject to a maximum of $350 in the aggregate.”; and

(l)

by renumbering the existing sub-paragraph (27) as sub-paragraph (28).
