(Motor Vehicles, Construction and Use)
(Amendment No. 2) Rules 2020

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 6 of the Road Traffic Act, the Land Transport Authority of Singapore makes the following Rules:

Citation and commencement

1. These Rules are the Road Traffic (Motor Vehicles, Construction and Use) (Amendment No. 2) Rules 2020 and come into operation on 1 August 2020.

Amendment of rule 76

2. Rule 76 of the Road Traffic (Motor Vehicles, Construction and Use) Rules (R 9) (called in these Rules the principal Rules) is amended by deleting paragraph (1) and substituting the following paragraph:

“(1) Every vehicle must be provided with at least —

(a)	one exit (which may also be an entrance) situated on the near-side of the vehicle; and
(b)	one emergency exit situated on the off-side or at the rear of the vehicle.”.

Amendment of rule 77

3. Rule 77(1) of the principal Rules is amended by deleting the word “Every” and substituting the words “Other than an emergency exit, every”.

Amendment of rule 81

4. Rule 81 of the principal Rules is amended —

(a)

by inserting, immediately after the word “outwards” in paragraph (1)(b), the words “or windows”; and

(b)

by inserting, immediately after paragraph (1), the following paragraph:

“(1A) Despite paragraph (1)(b), an emergency exit of a vehicle must be fitted with a door which opens outwards if the vehicle is provided with —

(a)	only one exit, which is also the only entrance; and
(b)	no other emergency exit fitted with a door which opens outwards.”.
