Dental Registration
(Amendment) Regulations 2014

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 62 of the Dental Registration Act, the Singapore Dental Council, with the approval of the Minister for Health, hereby makes the following Regulations:

Citation and commencement

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Dental Registration (Amendment) Regulations 2014 and shall come into operation on 17th February 2014.

Amendment of regulation 15A

2. Regulation 15A of the Dental Registration Regulations (Rg 1) (referred to in these Regulations as the principal Regulations) is amended —

(a)

by inserting, immediately after paragraph (2), the following paragraph:

“(2A) The examination shall consist of 3 parts, being Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3.”;

(b)

by inserting, immediately after the words “date and place of” in paragraph (3), the words “each part of”; and

(c)

by deleting paragraph (4) and substituting the following paragraph:

“(4) An applicant who is required by the Council to undergo the examination —

(a)	must sit for and pass all the 3 parts of the examination in sequence in order to pass the examination;
(b)	shall be entitled to sit for Part 2 of the examination only after having sat for and passed Part 1 of the examination;
(c)	shall be entitled to sit for Part 3 of the examination only after having sat for and passed both Part 1 and Part 2 of the examination; and
(d)	shall be entitled to only 2 attempts at each part of the examination and the second attempt must be taken within a period of 12 months after the date on which the first attempt was taken.”.

New regulation 43

3. The principal Regulations are amended by inserting, immediately after regulation 42, the following regulation:

“Fees

43.—(1) The fees specified in the Second Schedule shall be payable to the Council.

(2) The Council may in any particular case or class of cases, where it considers appropriate, waive, remit or refund, wholly or in part, any fee paid or payable under these Regulations.”.

Amendment of Second Schedule

4. Item 4 of the Second Schedule to the principal Regulations is deleted and the following items substituted therefor:

“

4.	Application under regulation 15C to sit for —

(a)	Part 1 of examination for a dentist

$750 for each attempt

(b)	Part 2 of examination for a dentist

$1,750 for each attempt

(c)	Part 3 of examination for a dentist

$3,000 for each attempt

4A.	Application under regulation 15C to sit for examination for an oral health therapist

$1,500 for each attempt

”.

Savings and transitional provisions

5.—(1) The principal Regulations in force as from 17th February 2014 shall apply to an applicant who —

(a)	is required by the Council under section 14A(2) of the Act to undergo an examination; and
(b)	before 17th February 2014, has made an application to sit for the examination but not taken any attempt at the examination,

as if that applicant had made an application to sit for the examination referred to in regulation 15A of those Regulations.

(2) The principal Regulations in force immediately before 17th February 2014 shall continue to apply to an applicant who —

(a)

is required by the Council under section 14A(2) of the Act to undergo an examination; and

(b)

before 17th February 2014 —

(i)	has made an application to sit for the examination;
(ii)	has taken the first attempt at the examination but did not pass the examination; and
(iii)	has applied to take the second attempt at the examination,

as if these Regulations had not been made.
