Essential (Prohibition of Uniforms) Regulations

Citation

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Essential (Prohibition of Uniforms) Regulations.

Prohibition of sale, wearing, possession of any uniform, etc.

2. Notwithstanding any law to the contrary, the Commissioner of Police or any officer authorised by him in writing may, if he considers it in the public interest, by order prohibit the sale, wearing or possession of any uniform or distinctive dress, or any part thereof, and of any article of clothing having the appearance or colour of such uniform or distinctive dress.

Penalty

3. Any person contravening any provision of an order made under these Regulations shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $1,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding one year or to both.

Arrest

4. Any police officer may arrest without warrant any person who has committed or is reasonably suspected by him to have committed an offence under these Regulations.

Forfeiture

5. Any article which constitutes the subject-matter of an offence under these Regulations shall be forfeited and handed over to the Commissioner of Police where it is forfeited for disposal.
