An Act to enable the annual wage increases for the year 1984 to be varied.

Short title
1.  This Act may be cited as the Public Service (Variation of 1984 Annual Wage Increases) Act.
Interpretation
2.  In this Act —
“annual wage increases” means the annual wage increases pursuant to the recommendations of the National Wages Council;
“public service” means service under the Government and includes —
(a)service as the holder of any public office or service as a Member of Parliament; and
(b)service under any statutory body or authority designated by the Minister by notification in the Gazette.
Power of Minister to vary 1984 annual wage increases
3.—(1)  The Minister may, by order published in the Gazette, vary the rates of the annual wage increases for 1984 payable to the public service in such manner as may be specified in the order.
(2)  Upon the coming into force of any order made under subsection (1), the Government and any designated statutory body or authority shall give effect to the order in relation to the annual wage increases for the year 1984.
(3)  Any term or condition of employment in the public service (including any collective agreement) imposing any liability to pay annual wage increases for the year 1984 in excess of any rate specified in the order shall to the extent of the excess be void and of no effect so long as the order remains in force.
Pensions not to be affected
4.  All pensions, gratuities and other allowances to be granted under the Pensions Act [Cap. 225] and the Parliamentary Pensions Act [Cap. 219] to any person in respect of whom the annual wage increases for the year 1984 were payable before 1st July 1987 shall be computed on such annual wage increases applicable to that person before that date, notwithstanding any variation of such wage increases under this Act.
