Infectious Diseases (Amendment) Bill

An Act to amend the Infectious Diseases Act, 1976 (No. 21 of 1976).
Be it enacted by the President with the advice and consent of the Parliament of Singapore, as follows: —
Short title and commencement
1.  This Act may be cited as the Infectious Diseases (Amendment) Act, 1980, and shall come into operation on such date as the Minister may, by notification in the Gazette, appoint.
Amendment of section 20
2.  Section 20 of the Infectious Diseases Act, 1976, is amended by deleting subsection (2) and substituting the following subsections: —
(2)  The Director may, by order in writing, prohibit any person for any period specified therein from carrying on any occupation, trade or business if his occupation, trade or business is conducted in such manner as is likely to cause the spread of any infectious disease.
(3)  Any person aggrieved by any order of the Director under subsection (2) may, within seven days from the date of the order, appeal to the Minister whose decision shall be final.
(4)  Any person who contravenes any order made under subsection (1) or (2) shall be guilty of an offence.”.
Amendment of First Schedule
3.  The First Schedule to the Infectious Diseases Act, 1976, is amended by deleting the word “Infectious” in item (g) and substituting the word “Viral”.
