Civil Law (Amendment) Ordinance

An Ordinance to amend the Civil Law Ordinance (Chapter 24 of the Revised Edition).
Be it enacted by the Yang di-Pertuan Negara with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of Singapore, as follows: —
Short title
1.  This Ordinance may be cited as the Civil Law (Amendment) Ordinance, 1961.
Amendment of section 6
2.  Section 6 of the Civil Law Ordinance is hereby amended —
(a)by deleting subsection (3) thereof and substituting therefor the following: —
(3)  Subsections (1) and (2) of this section shall not be deemed to apply —
(a)to any subscription or contribution, or agreement to subscribe or contribute, for or toward any plate, prize or sum of money to be awarded to the winner or winners of any lawful game, sport, past-time or exercise; or
(b)to any contract or agreement which purports to be a contract or agreement for the sale or purchase of rubber.
(4)  Notwithstanding anything to the contrary contained in any other written law, no contract or agreement as is referred to in paragraph (b) of subsection (3) of this section shall be illegal or invalid on the grounds that the parties to such contract or agreement or any of them did not at the time of entering into such contract or agreement hold or possess any licence or permit to sell, purchase, or otherwise to deal in rubber, the holding or possessing of which is required under any written law.”;
(b)by re-numbering existing subsection (4) thereof as subsection (5).
