Legitimacy (Amendment) Bill

An Act to amend the Legitimacy Ordinance (Chapter 42 of the Revised Edition).
Be it enacted by the President with the advice and consent of the Parliament of Singapore, as follows: —
Short title
1.  This Act may be cited as the Legitimacy (Amendment) Act, 1966.
Amendment of section 3
2.  Section 3 of the Legitimacy Ordinance is hereby amended —
(a)by inserting immediately after the word “Ordinance” appearing at the end of subsection (2) thereof the expression “or unless such marriage was registered or deemed to be registered under the Women’s Charter, 1961 (Ord. 18 of 1961)”; and
(b)by deleting subsection (3) thereof and renumbering subsections (4) and (5) thereof as subsections (3) and (4) respectively.
Amendment of section 4
3.  Section 4 of the Legitimacy Ordinance is hereby amended —
(a)by deleting the words “natural-born British subject” appearing in the fourth line of subsection (1) thereof and substituting therefor the words “citizen of Singapore”;
(b)by deleting the words “Her Majesty” appearing in the penultimate line of subsection (1) thereof and substituting therefor the words “the Government”; and
(c)by deleting the words “State Advocate-General” appearing in subsections (4) and (5) thereof and substituting therefor in each case the word “Attorney-General”.
Miscellaneous amendments
4.  The following sections of the Legitimacy Ordinance are hereby amended by deleting the words “the Colony” wherever they appear therein and substituting therefor the word “Singapore”: —
Sections 3(1), 4(1) and 9(1).
