Parking Places Ordinance |

An Ordinance to make provision for parking places and to repeal the existing provisions of the Road Traffic Ordinance, 1961 (No. 26 of 1961) relating thereto. |
Be it enacted by the Yang di-Pertuan Negara with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of Singapore, as follows: — |
Short title and commencement |
1. This Ordinance may be cited as the Parking Places Ordinance, 1963, and shall come into operation on such date as the Minister may by notification in the Gazette appoint. |
Interpretation |
2. In this Ordinance —

Minister may provide parking places |
3. Where it appears to the Minister to be necessary to provide suitable parking places for vehicles, he may provide such parking places in accordance with the provisions of this Ordinance, and for that purpose may —

Adaptation of land for use as a parking place |
4. The Minister may take all such steps as may be necessary to adapt for use as a parking place any land not being part of a road which he may utilise for that purpose under this Ordinance and may appoint, with or without remuneration, such officers and servants as may be necessary for the superintending of parking places. |
Government not liable for loss or damage |
5. The exercise by the Minister of his powers under this Ordinance with respect to the use as a parking place of any part of a road shall not render the Government subject to any liability in respect of loss or damage to any vehicle or the fittings or contents of any vehicles parked in such parking places. |
Rules |
Minister may prescribe charges |
7. The Minister may by order prescribe charges to be paid in connection with the use of any parking place. An order made under this section shall be published in the Gazette and shall come into operation on such publication or at such later date as may be prescribed therein and a copy of every such order shall be exhibited on or near any parking place to which the order relates. |
All charges to be paid into Consolidated Fund |
8. All charges collected under the provisions of this Ordinance shall be paid into the Consolidated Fund. |
Plying for hire prohibited within parking place |
9. While any vehicle is within a parking place which has not also been appointed a public stand under the provisions of section 279 of the Municipal Ordinance (Cap. 133 (1936 Edition)) or of section 58 of the Road Traffic Ordinance, 1961 (Ord. 26 of 1961), it shall not be lawful for the driver or conductor of the vehicle or for any person employed in connection therewith to ply for hire or to accept passengers for hire and any person who acts in contravention of this provision shall be guilty of an offence under this Ordinance and shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding one hundred dollars. |
Parking places to be indicated by traffic signs |
10.—(1) When the Minister authorises the use as a parking place of any part of a road, he shall cause such parking place to be indicated by means of traffic signs.

Repeal |
11. Section 63 of the Road Traffic Ordinance, 1961 (Ord. 26 of 1961), is hereby repealed. |
