Enlistment (Amendment) Bill

An Act to amend the Enlistment Act (Chapter 229 of the Revised Edition).
Be it enacted by the President with the advice and consent of the Parliament of Singapore, as follows:
Short title and commencement
1.  This Act may be cited as the Enlistment (Amendment) Act 1986 and shall come into operation on such date as the Minister may, by notification in the Gazette, appoint.
Amendment of section 14
2.  The Enlistment Act is amended by renumbering section 14 as subsection (1) of that section, and by inserting immediately thereafter the following subsection:
(2)  Nothing in subsection (1) shall preclude any person who is liable for reserve service from serving for a period or periods longer than the period or periods specified in subsection (1)(a) or (b) if authorised by the proper authority.”.
Amendment of section 24
3.  Section 24(1) of the Enlistment Act is amended —
(a)by deleting the words “paragraph (a) of section 14 of this Act” in paragraph (a) and substituting the words “section 14(1)(a)”; and
(b)by deleting the words “paragraph (b) of section 14 of this Act” in paragraph (b) and substituting the words “section 14(1)(b) or section 14(2).”.
