Poisons (Amendment) Bill

An Act to amend the Poisons Act (Chapter 164 of the Revised Edition).
Be it enacted by the President with the advice and consent of the Parliament of Singapore, as follows: —
Short title and commencement
1.  This Act may be cited as the Poisons (Amendment) Act, 1980, and shall come into operation on such date as the Minister may, by notification in the Gazette, appoint.
Repeal and re-enactment of section 4
2.  Section 4 of the Poisons Act is repealed and the following substituted therefor: —
Licensing officers
4.  The Director of Medical Services or any officer of the Medical Department authorised by him in writing may issue licences for the purposes of this Act.”.
Amendment of section 15
3.  Section 15 of the Poisons Act is amended by deleting the words “officer of the Medical Department” in subsection (1) and substituting the words “public officer”.
Amendment of section 17
4.  Section 17 of the Poisons Act is amended by deleting subsection (1) and substituting the following: —
(1)  Any person who acts in contravention of any of the provisions of this Act or any rules made thereunder shall, except in so far as his act comes within one of the exemptions made by sections 7 and 8, be guilty of an offence under this Act and shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding five thousand dollars or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years or to both such fine and imprisonment.”.
