Labour (Amendment) Bill

An Act to amend the Labour Ordinance, 1955 (No. 40 of 1955).
Be it enacted by the President with the advice and consent of the Parliament of Singapore, as follows: —
Short title
1.  This Act may be cited as the Labour (Amendment) Act, 1967.
Amendment of section 50
2.  Section 50 of the Labour Ordinance, 1955, is hereby amended —
(a)by deleting subsection (1) thereof and substituting therefor the following: —
(1)  Except as provided in subsection (4) of this section, no female workman shall be employed in any kind of labour during the night or any part thereof.”; and
(b)by inserting immediately after subsection (3) thereof the following new subsection: —
(4)  The Minister may, by notification in the Gazette, exempt the employment of female workmen in any particular industry or in any industrial undertaking or any branch thereof or in any kind of labour from the provisions of subsection (1) of this section where he is satisfied, on an application made to him in that behalf, that it is desirable in the public interest to do so for the purpose of maintaining or increasing the efficiency of industry.”.
