Pensions (Amendment) Bill

An Act to amend the Pensions Act (Chapter 55 of the Revised Edition).
Be it enacted by the President with the advice and consent of the Parliament of Singapore, as follows: —
Short title and commencement
1.  This Act may be cited as the Pensions (Amendment) Act, 1972 and shall be deemed to have come into operation on the 1st day of April 1972.
Amendment of section 6
2.  Paragraph (d) of section 6 of the Pensions Act is hereby amended by deleting sub-paragraph (i) thereof and substituting therefor the following: —
(i)a member of any of the funds mentioned in Part I of the Second Schedule to this Act, except upon the condition that there shall be first paid to the Government the total amount paid by the Government and any of the authorities mentioned in Part II of the said Schedule to any of the said funds excluding the amount paid on account of the officer if he is on the pensionable establishment with respect to such service or an equivalent amount if he is not on the pensionable establishment with respect to such service, together with the interest, if any, thereon; or”.
Amendment of section 16
3.  Paragraph (a) of subsection (4) of section 16 of the Pensions Act is hereby amended by deleting sub-paragraphs (i) and (ii) thereof and substituting therefor the following: —
(i)in the case of an officer transferred to the service of the Government from the service of an authority mentioned in Part II of the Second Schedule to this Act under the provisions of any written law for the time being in force providing that service with that authority shall be deemed to have been service with the Government for the purposes of this Act, by the total amount paid by the Government and any of the said authorities to any of the funds mentioned in Part I of the said Schedule excluding the amount paid on account of the officer if he is on the pensionable establishment with respect to such service or an equivalent amount if he is not on the pensionable establishment with respect to such service with the Government and with any of the said authorities together with the interest, if any, thereon, and by the sum of money, if any, payable under the Singapore City Council Superannuation Fund for Subordinate Employees Rules, 1954, in respect of the death of the officer; and
(ii)in the case of an officer not transferred to the service of the Government from the service of an authority as aforesaid and not in the public service on the 31st day of March 1962, by the total amount paid by the Government to the Central Provident Fund excluding the amount paid on account of the officer if he is on the pensionable establishment with respect to his public service or an equivalent amount if he is not on the pensionable establishment with respect to his public service;”.
