National Museum (Amendment) Bill

Act Act to amend the National Museum Ordinance, 1957 (No. 30 of 1957).
Be it enacted by the President with the advice and consent of the Parliament of Singapore, as follows: —
Short title and commencement
1.  This Act may be cited as the National Museum (Amendment) Act, 1968, and shall come into operation on such date as the Minister may, by notification in the Gazette, appoint.
Repeal and re-enactment of section 4
2.  Section 4 of the National Museum Ordinance, 1957, is hereby repealed and the following substituted therefor: —
National Museum Board
4.—(1)  In order to advise the Minister on the operation of the National Museum, a Board shall be constituted under the name of the National Museum Board.
(2)  The constitution and procedure of the National Museum Board shall be provided for by rules made under this Ordinance.
(3)  The functions of the National Museum Board shall be —
(a)to advise the Director on the acquisition of material for display and of reference collections;
(b)to negotiate on behalf of the Museum, at the request of the Director, for the receipt from private collectors of loans or gifts of material;
(c)to assist the Director in making the exhibition galleries as interesting, informative, comprehensive and valuable as possible;
(d)to advise the Director to undertake any activities which would help to further the objectives of the Museum, and which would be of interest and benefit to the public; and
(e)to advise the Director on the financing of the activities of the Museum and on the training of the staff of the Museum.”.
Amendment of section 5
3.  Subsection (2) of section 5 of the National Museum Ordinance, 1957, is hereby deleted and the following substituted therefor: —
(2)  All rules made under this Ordinance shall be published in the Gazette and shall be presented to Parliament as soon as may be after publication.”.
