Parliamentary Elections (Amendment No. 2) Bill

An Act to amend the Parliamentary Elections Act (Chapter 218 of the Revised Edition).
Be it enacted by the President with the advice and consent of the Parliament of Singapore, as follows:
Short title
1.  This Act may be cited as the Parliamentary Elections (Amendment No. 2) Act 1988.
Amendment of section 28
2.  Section 28 of the Parliamentary Elections Act is amended —
(a)by deleting the words “the sum of $1,500” in the sixth line of subsection (1) and substituting the words “a sum equal to 8% of the total allowances payable to a Member of Parliament in the preceding calendar year, rounded to the nearest $500”; and
(b)by deleting subsection (7) and substituting the following subsection:
(7)  The Returning Officer shall, on giving notice under section 25 of the issue of a writ, specify in such notice the amount to be deposited under subsection (1).”.
