An Act to establish the Provisional Mass Rapid Transit Authority and for purposes connected therewith.

Be it enacted by the President with the advice and consent of the Parliament of Singapore, as follows: —

PART I

PRELIMINARY

Short title and commencement

1. This Act may be cited as the Provisional Mass Rapid Transit Authority Act, 1980, and shall come into operation on such date as the Minister may, by notification in the Gazette, appoint.

Interpretation

2. In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires —

“Chairman” means the Chairman of the Provisional Authority;

“Deputy Chairman” means the Deputy Chairman of the Provisional Authority;

“Mass Rapid Transit System” means the Mass Rapid Transit System intended to be set up in pursuance of the transport policy of the Government;

“Provisional Authority” means the Provisional Mass Rapid Transit Authority established under section 3.
