Factories (First-aid) Regulations

Citation

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Factories (First-Aid) Regulations.

Definition

2. In these Regulations, “first-aid” means —

(a)	in cases where a person will need help from a medical practitioner or nurse, treatment for the purpose of preserving life and minimising the consequences of injury and illness until such help is obtained; and
(b)	treatment of minor injuries which would otherwise receive no treatment or which do not need treatment by a medical practitioner or nurse.

Provision of first-aid boxes or containers

3.—(1) There shall be provided and maintained by the occupier of a factory with the number of workers specified in the first column of Part I of the First Schedule such number and standard of first-aid boxes or containers specified in the second column thereof.

(2) Where the factory is located in a building, the number of first-aid boxes or containers required on a floor of the building in which the factory is located shall be determined by the number of workers on that floor of the building in accordance with Part I of the First Schedule.

(3) Every first-aid box or container shall be clearly identified as first-aid box or container and shall be placed in a location that is well-illuminated and easily accessible.

Contents of first-aid boxes or containers

4.—(1) The contents required of the first-aid boxes or containers in a factory shall be as specified in Part II of the First Schedule.

(2) Every first-aid box or container shall be checked frequently to ensure that it is fully-equipped and all the items in the box or container are usable.

(3) The contents of the first-aid box or container shall be replenished as soon as possible after use.

First-aiders

5.—(1) The occupier of the factory in which more than 25 persons are employed shall appoint such number of persons specified in the Second Schedule as first-aiders.

(2) Where there is a shift work schedule in the factory, the occupier of the factory shall ensure that the ratio of the number of first-aiders available on each shift to the number of workers at work on that shift complies with the ratio specified in the second column of the Second Schedule.

(3) Every first-aider shall maintain a record of all treatment rendered.
