Maintenance of Parents
(Amendment No. 3) Rules 2024

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 21 of the Maintenance of Parents Act 1995, the Minister for Social and Family Development makes the following Rules:

Citation and commencement

1.—(1) These Rules are the Maintenance of Parents (Amendment No. 3) Rules 2024 and, except for rules 2 and 3(k) to (o), (u) and (v), come into operation on 2 January 2025.

(2) Rules 2 and 3(k) to (o), (u) and (v) come into operation on 16 January 2025.

Amendment of rule 11

2. In the Maintenance of Parents Rules (R 1), in rule 11(1), replace “section 71, 71A, 71B, 71C, 79, 79A or Part IX of the Women’s Charter (Cap. 353)” with “Part 9 of the Women’s Charter 1961”.

Amendment of Schedule

3. In the Maintenance of Parents Rules, in the Schedule —

(a)

in Part 1, in paragraph 1(g), before sub‑paragraph (i), insert —

“(i)	section 60A(1) of the Women’s Charter 1961;”;

(b)

in Part 1, in paragraph 1(g), renumber the existing sub‑paragraph (i) as sub‑paragraph (ii);

(c)

in Part 1, in paragraph 1(g)(ii) (as renumbered by paragraph (b)), after “Women’s Charter 1961”, insert “(as in force immediately before 2 January 2025)”;

(d)

in Part 1, in paragraph 1(g), renumber the existing sub‑paragraph (ii) as sub‑paragraph (iii);

(e)

in Part 1, in paragraph 1(g), renumber the existing sub‑paragraph (iii) as sub‑paragraph (iv);

(f)

in Part 1, in paragraph 1(h), before sub‑paragraph (i), insert —

“(i)	section 61(2) of the Women’s Charter 1961;”;

(g)

in Part 1, in paragraph 1(h), renumber the existing sub‑paragraph (i) as sub‑paragraph (ii);

(h)

in Part 1, in paragraph 1(h)(ii) (as renumbered by paragraph (g)), after “Women’s Charter 1961”, insert “(as in force immediately before 2 January 2025)”;

(i)

in Part 1, in paragraph 1(h), renumber the existing sub‑paragraph (ii) as sub‑paragraph (iii);

(j)

in Part 1, in paragraph 1(h), renumber the existing sub‑paragraph (iii) as sub‑paragraph (iv);

(k)

in Part 1, in paragraph 1(i), before sub‑paragraph (i), insert —

“(i)	section 81(1)(a) of the Women’s Charter 1961 read with section 91B(1)(b) of the Women’s Charter 1961;”;

(l)

in Part 1, in paragraph 1(i), renumber the existing sub‑paragraph (i) as sub‑paragraph (ii);

(m)

in Part 1, in paragraph 1(i)(ii) (as renumbered by paragraph (l)), after “Women’s Charter 1961”, insert “(as in force immediately before 16 January 2025)”;

(n)

in Part 1, in paragraph 1(i), renumber the existing sub‑paragraph (ii) as sub‑paragraph (iii);

(o)

in Part 1, in paragraph 1(i), renumber the existing sub‑paragraph (iii) as sub paragraph (iv);

(p)

in Part 2, after item 23, insert —
