Passports Act

Passports (Amendment No. 2) Regulations 2005
In exercise of the powers conferred by section 3(1) of the Passports Act, the Minister for Home Affairs hereby makes the following Regulations:
Citation and commencement
1.  These Regulations may be cited as the Passports (Amendment No. 2) Regulations 2005 and shall come into operation on 1st April 2005.
Amendment of regulation 5
2.  Regulation 5 of the Passports Regulations (Rg 1) is amended by deleting paragraph (2) and substituting the following paragraph:
(2)  Singapore passports shall be issued in the name of the President and shall be valid —
(a)for a period not exceeding 11 years for passports issued before 1st April 2005; and
(b)for a period not exceeding 6 years for passports issued on or after 1st April 2005.”.
Amendment of regulation 7
3.  Regulation 7 of the Passports Regulations is amended by deleting paragraphs (1) and (2) and substituting the following paragraphs:
(1)  Subject to paragraphs (2) and (3), an authorised officer may renew a Singapore passport for the following periods starting from the date of its expiry or the date of renewal, whichever is the later:
(a)a period not exceeding 11 years where the Singapore passport is issued before 1st April 2005; or
(b)a period not exceeding 6 years where the Singapore passport is issued on or after 1st April 2005.
(2)  The total period of validity of any Singapore passport shall not in any case —
(a)exceed 11 years from the date of its original issue where that date is before 1st April 2005; or
(b)exceed 6 years from the date of its original issue where that date is on or after 1st April 2005.”.
Amendment of First Schedule
4.  Paragraph 1 of the First Schedule to the Passports Regulations is amended —
(a)by deleting “$60” in sub-paragraph (a)(i) and (ia) and substituting in each case “$50”; and
(b)by deleting “$70” in sub-paragraph (a)(ii) and substituting “$60”.
