Singapore Armed Forces (Saver Plan) (Amendment) Regulations 2007

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 205A of the Singapore Armed Forces Act, the Armed Forces Council hereby makes the following Regulations:

Citation and commencement

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Singapore Armed Forces (SAVER Plan) (Amendment) Regulations 2007 and shall be deemed to have come into operation on 1st January 2007.

Amendment of regulation 12

2. Regulation 12 of the Singapore Armed Forces (SAVER Plan) Regulations (Rg 19) is amended ––

(a)

by deleting the word “or” at the end of paragraph (h); and

(b)

by deleting the full-stop at the end of paragraph (i) and substituting the word “; or”, and by inserting immediately thereafter the following paragraph:

“(j)

if his retirement is considered by the Armed Forces Council to be necessary ––

(i)	due to the abolition of his office; or
(ii)	for the purpose of facilitating improvement in the organisation of the department to which the member belongs by which greater efficiency or economy may be effected.”.

Amendment of regulation 17

3. Regulation 17 of the Singapore Armed Forces (SAVER Plan) Regulations is amended ––

(a)

by deleting the words “regulation 12” in paragraph (1) and substituting the words “regulation 12 (a) to (i)”;

(b)

by inserting, immediately after paragraph (1), the following paragraph:

“(1A) Where a member retires or is required to retire from the Singapore Armed Forces on either of the grounds specified in regulation 12 (j), there shall vest in the member and may be awarded to him, at the option of the member ––

(a)	all moneys standing to his credit in his Savings Account and Retirement Account at the date of his retirement; or
(b)	one month’s last drawn salary, excluding any bonus or allowance, for each year of his reckonable service and a proportionate sum thereof for any complete month, capped at 25 years,

subject to such conditions as the Armed Forces Council may, by General Order, impose.”;

(c)

by inserting, immediately after paragraph (3), the following paragraph:

“(3A) Paragraph (3) shall not apply to a member who retires on either of the grounds specified in regulation 12 (j).”;

(d)

by deleting the words “paragraphs (1), (2) and (3)” in paragraph (4) and substituting the words “paragraphs (1), (1A), (2), (3) and (3A)”; and

(e)

by deleting the words “paragraph (1)” in paragraph (7) and substituting the words “paragraph (6)”.
