(Amendment No. 2) Rules 2022

In exercise of the powers conferred by sections 82A(14) and 91(1) of the Legal Profession Act 1966, we, the Rules Committee, make the following Rules:

Citation and commencement

1. These Rules are the Legal Profession (Disciplinary Tribunal) (Amendment No. 2) Rules 2022 and come into operation on 1 April 2022.

Amendment of rule 11

2. Rule 11 of the Legal Profession (Disciplinary Tribunal) Rules (R 2) (called in these Rules the principal Rules) is amended —

(a)	by deleting the words “a subpoena” and substituting the words “an order to attend court or an order to produce documents”;
(b)	by deleting the words “Order 38, rules 14 to 19 of the Rules of Court (Cap. 322, R 5)” and substituting the words “Order 15, Rule 4 of the Rules of Court 2021 (G.N. No. S 914/2021)”; and
(c)	by deleting the word “Subpoenas” in the rule heading and substituting the words “Orders to attend court and orders to produce documents”.

Amendment of rule 15

3. Rule 15(1) of the principal Rules is amended by deleting the words “in camera” (including the rule heading) and substituting in each case the words “in private”.

Miscellaneous amendments

4. The principal Rules are amended by deleting the word “leave” wherever it appears in the following provisions and substituting in each case the word “permission”:

Rule 2(1) (paragraph (a)(ii) of the definition of “complainant”)

Rule 5

Rule 10(3)(a).
