Women’s Charter (Registration of Marriages) (Amendment) Rules 2001

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 180(1) of the Women’s Charter, the Minister for Community Development and Sports hereby makes the following Rules:

Citation and commencement

1. These Rules may be cited as the Women’s Charter (Registration of Marriages) (Amendment) Rules 2001 and shall come into operation on 1st April 2001.

Amendment of rule 3

2. Rule 3(3) of the Women’s Charter (Registration of Marriages) Rules (R 3) (referred to in these Rules as the principal Rules) is amended by deleting “$50” and substituting “$52”.

Amendment of rule 4

3. Rule 4 (2) of the principal Rules is amended by deleting “$35” and substituting “$42”.

Amendment of rule 5

4. Rule 5 of the principal Rules is amended —

(a)

by deleting paragraph (1) and substituting the following paragraph:

“(1) The following fees shall be payable to the Registrar for the issue of a marriage licence under section 17 of the Act:

(a)	where at least one party to the marriage is a citizen of Singapore and the marriage is to be solemnized by the Registrar or by a person licensed to do so under section 8(2) of the Act — $26.00; and
(b)	where both parties to the marriage are not citizens of Singapore — $80.”; and

(b)

by deleting “$10” in paragraph (3) and substituting “$11”.

Amendment of rule 6

5. Rule 6 of the principal Rules is amended by deleting paragraphs (3), (4) and (5) and substituting the following paragraphs:

“(3) A fee of $125 shall be payable for the issue of a special marriage licence under section 21 of the Act if the marriage is to be solemnized by the Registrar or by a person licensed to do so under section 8(2) of the Act.

(4) The Minister may, in any particular case and in his discretion, reduce the fee payable under paragraph (3) to $28.”.

Amendment of rule 11

6. Rule 11 of the principal Rules is amended by deleting “$49” and substituting “$66”.

Amendment of rule 12

7. Rule 12 of the principal Rules is amended by deleting “$11” and substituting “$12”.

Amendment of rule 13

8. Rule 13 (1) of the principal Rules is amended by deleting “$16” and substituting “$30”.

Amendment of rule 15

9. Rule 15 (2) of the principal Rules is amended by deleting “$24” and substituting “$42”.
