Medicines (Cosmetic Products) (Specification and Prohibition) (Amendment) Order 2000

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 54 of the Medicines Act, the Minister for Health hereby makes the following Order:

Citation and commencement

1. This Order may be cited as the Medicines (Cosmetic Products) (Specification and Prohibition) (Amendment) Order 2000 and shall come into operation on 20th April 2000.

Amendment of Third Schedule

2. The Third Schedule to the Medicines (Cosmetic Products) (Specification and Prohibition) Order (O 16) is amended —

(a)

by deleting item 11 in Part I;

(b)

by inserting, immediately after item 12 in Part I, the following item:

“13. Ethyl Urocanate and Urocanic Acid.”; and

(c)

by inserting, immediately after item 6 in Part II, the following items and their entries corresponding thereto in the appropriate columns as shown thereunder:

Concentration of substance (if any) that may be present in cosmetic product

Where restriction applies only to a type of cosmetic product

“7.	Lead and its compounds

Not exceeding 20 parts per million (by weight), calculated in lead

8.	Methyl Alcohol

Not exceeding 5%, weight by weight, calculated as a percentage of any Ethanol or Isopropyl Alcohol or both, as the case may be, in a cosmetic product

Methyl Alcohol is only allowed in a cosmetic product when it is present as a denaturant of any Ethanol or Isopropyl Alcohol or both, as the case may be, in the product
