Muslim Marriage and Divorce (Amendment) Rules 1999

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 145 of the Administration of Muslim Law Act, the President of Singapore hereby makes the following Rules:

Citation and commencement

1.—(1) These Rules may be cited as the Muslim Marriage and Divorce (Amendment) Rules 1999 and shall, with the exception of rule 3 (b), come into operation on 1st June 1999.

(2) Rule 3 (b) of these Rules shall be deemed to have come into operation on 15th April 1998.

Amendment of rule 32

2. Rule 32 of the Muslim Marriage and Divorce Rules (R 1) (referred to in these Rules as the principal Rules) is amended —

(a)

by deleting paragraph (1) and substituting the following paragraph:

“(1) The following fees shall be payable to the Kadis or Naib Kadis:

(a)	for registering a marriage (inclusive of the issue of 2 copies of a certificate of marriage)

(b)	for registering a divorce (inclusive of the issue of 2 copies of a certificate of divorce)

(c)	for registering a revocation of divorce (inclusive of the issue of 2 copies of a certificate of revocation of divorce)

(d)	for preparing a certified copy of the grounds for the refusal to register a marriage, divorce or revocation of divorce under section 104 (3) of the Act

(e)	for the issue of a summons under section 142 of the Act

(f)	for preparing a certified copy of the notes of evidence of any proceedings before a Kadi or Naib Kadi (per page)

(b)

by deleting “$22” in the 5th line of paragraph (3) and substituting “$24”.

Amendment of rule 33

3. Rule 33 of the principal Rules is amended —

(a)	by deleting “$17” in paragraph (1) (a) and substituting “$19”;
(b)	by deleting “$14” in paragraph (2) (a) and substituting “$17”; and
(c)	by deleting “$17” in paragraph (2) (a) and substituting “$19”.

Amendment of rule 34

4. Rule 34 of the principal Rules is amended by deleting “$25” in paragraph (f) and substituting “$26”.
