National Library (Amendment)
Rules 1993
In exercise of the powers conferred by section 10 of the National Library Board Act, the Minister for Information and the Arts hereby makes the following Rules:
1.  These Rules may be cited as the National Library (Amendment) Rules 1993 and shall come into operation on 12th July 1993.
2.  Rule 2 of the National Library Rules (referred to in these Rules as the principal Rules) is amended by inserting, immediately after the definition of “card”, the following definition:
“ “identity card” means an identity card issued under the National Registration Act;”.
3.  Rule 3(1) of the principal Rules is amended by deleting the words “a deposit of $10 for those who enrol in the Adult or Young People’s Section and of a deposit of $5 for those who enrol in the Children’s Section” at the end of paragraph (b) and substituting the words “an annual membership fee of $10”.
4.  Rule 4 of the principal Rules is amended by deleting the word “deposit” and substituting the words “annual membership fee”.
5.  Rules 5 and 6 of the principal Rules are deleted and the following rule substituted therefor:
Membership cards
5.—(1)  Upon registration —
(a)a member who is below 12 years of age shall be issued with a membership card; and
(b)a member who is 12 years of age or above may use his identity card as a membership card or may at his request be issued with a membership card,
to enable him to borrow library material.
(2)  A member may borrow library material in such numbers as may be determined by the Director.
(3)  A member shall present his membership card or identity card, as the case may be, whenever he borrows any library material.”.
6.  Rule 7 of the principal Rules is amended by deleting the word “Every” and substituting the words “Except for a member who is the holder of an identity card, every”.
