COVID‑19 (Temporary Measures)
(Sporting Events and Activities —
Control Order) (Amendment)
Regulations 2021

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 34(1) of the COVID‑19 (Temporary Measures) Act 2020, the Minister for Health makes the following Regulations:

Citation and commencement

1. These Regulations are the COVID‑19 (Temporary Measures) (Sporting Events and Activities — Control Order) (Amendment) Regulations 2021 and come into operation on 8 May 2021.

Amendment of regulation 2

2. Regulation 2 of the COVID‑19 (Temporary Measures) (Sporting Events and Activities — Control Order) Regulations 2021 (G.N. No. S 277/2021) (called in these Regulations the principal Regulations) is amended —

(a)

by inserting, immediately after the words “and that is not” in the definition of “participation sporting event” in paragraph (1), the words “excluded by paragraph (3) and is not”;

(b)

by deleting paragraph (f) of the definition of “sporting activity” in paragraph (1); and

(c)

by inserting, immediately after paragraph (2), the following paragraph:

“(3) For the purposes of these Regulations, any type of match, game, competition, display or exhibition of any sporting activity (or a series thereof) arranged or held in the course of business must not be treated as a participation sporting event if the individuals who engage in or play one or more of those sporting activities do so —

(a)	during the conduct of any lesson, coaching or instruction of the sporting activity provided by a person carrying on an education business; and
(b)	under the supervision of an instructor authorised by the person carrying on the education business.”.

Amendment of regulation 5

3. Regulation 5 of the principal Regulations is amended —

(a)	by deleting “750” in paragraph (2)(a) and substituting “250”; and
(b)	by deleting “8” in paragraph (4)(b) and substituting “5”.

Amendment of regulation 9

4. Regulation 9 of the principal Regulations is amended by inserting, immediately after the words “in a day” in paragraph (a), the words “is not more than 50”.

New regulation 9A

5. The principal Regulations are amended by inserting, immediately after regulation 9, the following regulation:

“Approval needed for ordinary sporting events

9A. A sporting event organiser for a sporting event to which this Part applies and that takes place on or after 8 May 2021, must not intentionally or negligently cause or allow the sporting event to take place without the prior approval of the approving authority.”.

Miscellaneous amendment

6. The principal Regulations are amended by deleting “8” in the following provisions and substituting in each case “5”:

Regulation 3(1)(a)

Regulation 14(1)(f)(i).
