Medical Registration (Amendment) Regulations 2009
In exercise of the powers conferred by section 70 of the Medical Registration Act, the Singapore Medical Council, with the approval of the Minister for Health, hereby makes the following Regulations:
Citation and commencement
1.  These Regulations may be cited as the Medical Registration (Amendment) Regulations 2009 and shall come into operation on 31st July 2009.
Deletion and substitution of regulation 16E
2.  Regulation 16E of the Medical Registration Regulations (Rg 1) is deleted and the following regulation substituted therefor:
Duration of practising certificate
16E.—(1)  Except as otherwise provided in paragraph (2), a practising certificate shall be valid for any period not exceeding 24 months from the date it is issued or renewed, as specified therein.
(2)  A practising certificate may be granted or renewed for a period of 12 months or less from the date it is issued or renewed, as specified therein, only if —
(a)the registered medical practitioner applied for the grant or renewal of a practising certificate of a validity period of 12 months or less;
(b)the Medical Council is satisfied that the registered medical practitioner is unlikely to practise in Singapore for more than 12 months; or
(c)the Medical Council is satisfied that it is not in the public interest for the registered medical practitioner to hold a practising certificate of a validity period of more than 12 months.”.
Amendment of Third Schedule
3.  The Third Schedule to the Medical Registration Regulations is amended —
(a)by deleting the words “24 months” in the first column of items 1, 3, 5, 7 and 11 and substituting in each case the words “more than 12 months up to and including 24 months”; and
(b)by inserting, immediately after the words “12 months” in the first column of items 2, 4, 6, 8 and 12, the words “or less”.
