Education Endowment Scheme (Edusave Merit Bursaries) (Amendment) Regulations 1999

In exercise of the powers conferred by sections 6 (1)(d) and 24 (a) of the Education Endowment Scheme Act, the Minister for Education hereby makes the following Regulations:

Citation and commencement

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Education Endowment Scheme (Edusave Merit Bursaries) (Amendment) Regulations 1999 and shall come into operation on 1st October 1999.

Amendment of regulation 5

2. Regulation 5 of the Education Endowment Scheme (Edusave Merit Bursaries) Regulations (Rg 5) is amended —

(a)

by deleting sub-paragraph (i) of paragraph (1)(c) and substituting the following sub-paragraph:

“(i)	he has obtained the qualifying score;”;

(b)

by deleting sub-paragraph (i) of paragraph (1)(d) and substituting the following sub-paragraph:

“(i)	he has obtained the qualifying score;”;

(c)

by deleting sub-paragraph (i) of paragraph (1)(e) and substituting the following sub-paragraph:

“(i)	he has obtained the qualifying score;”; and

(d)

by deleting paragraph (2) and substituting the following paragraph:

“(2) For the purposes of this regulation, “qualifying score” means the lowest aggregate score which is obtained by any pupil standing among the 25% of —

(a)	all pupils in the same stream and standard in a primary or secondary school who have obtained the highest marks in the examinations conducted by the school in that year for pupils in that stream and standard;
(b)	all pupils reading the same course at the same level in a junior college who have obtained the highest marks in the examinations conducted by the junior college in that year for pupils reading that course at that level; or
(c)	all pupils reading the same course at the same level as full-time pupils of a training institute who have obtained the highest marks in the examinations conducted by the training institute in that year for pupils reading that course at that level,

as the case may be.”.

Amendment of regulation 6

3. Regulation 6 of the Education Endowment Scheme (Edusave Merit Bursaries) Regulations is amended —

(a)	by deleting paragraph (2); and
(b)	by deleting “25%” in the 4th line of paragraph (3) and substituting “30%”. [G.N. No. S 486/97]
