National University of Singapore Act
(Amendment of University Constitution)
Order 2000
In exercise of the powers conferred by section 6(2) of the National University of Singapore Act, the Minister for Education, on the advice of the Council of the National University of Singapore, hereby makes the following Order:
Citation and commencement
1.  This Order may be cited as the National University of Singapore Act (Amendment of University Constitution) Order 2000 and shall come into operation on 8th August 2000.
Amendment of University Constitution
2.  The University Constitution set out in the First Schedule to the Act is amended —
(a)by deleting subsection (1) of section 8 and substituting the following subsection:
(1)  There shall be a Council of the University which shall consist of the following members:
(a)the Vice-Chancellor;
(b)not more than 6 members from the Senate and the Register of Graduates to be appointed by the Chancellor on the recommendation of the Vice-Chancellor, of whom —
(i)at least 2 shall be from the Senate; and
(ii)at least 2 shall be from the Register of Graduates; and
(c)not more than 12 members to be appointed by the Government.”;
(b)by deleting the words “4 years” in section 8(2) and substituting the words “2 years”;
(c)by deleting the words “3 years” in section 8(4) and substituting the words “2 years”; and
(d)by deleting the words “7 members” in section 11(2) and substituting the words “6 members”.
