Conductors, Trishaw Riders and Passengers)
(Amendment No. 5) Rules 2016

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 111 of the Road Traffic Act, the Land Transport Authority of Singapore makes the following Rules:

Citation and commencement

1. These Rules are the Road Traffic (Public Service Vehicles) (Vocational Licences and Conduct of Drivers, Conductors, Trishaw Riders and Passengers) (Amendment No. 5) Rules 2016 and come into operation on 29 July 2016.

Amendment of rule 2

2. Rule 2 of the Road Traffic (Public Service Vehicles) (Vocational Licences and Conduct of Drivers, Conductors, Trishaw Riders and Passengers) Rules (R 8) (called in these Rules the principal Rules) is amended —

(a)

by deleting the definition of “public stand” and substituting the following definition:

“ “public stand” means any public stand provided for public service vehicles under Part V of the Act and includes any stand, stop or terminus provided for a class of public service vehicles;”; and

(b)

by deleting the definition of “taxi stop” and substituting the following definitions:

“ “taxi stand” means a public stand provided for taxis, indicated by a sign specified in Diagram 108B of Part III of the Schedule to the Road Traffic (Traffic Signs) Rules (R 33) and marked on the road by means of yellow lines;

“taxi stop” means an area of a road indicated by a sign specified in Diagram 107(c) of Part III of the Schedule to the Road Traffic (Traffic Signs) Rules and marked on the road by means of yellow lines;”.

Amendment of rule 26

3. Rule 26 of the principal Rules is amended by deleting paragraphs (2) and (3) and substituting the following paragraphs:

“(2) A taxi driver may stop the taxi at a taxi stop for the purpose of taking up or setting down passengers, goods or luggage.

(3) A taxi driver must not park the taxi at a taxi stop.

(3A) A taxi driver must not stop, park or station the taxi in the vicinity of a taxi stop when that taxi is not hired out or carrying any passenger for the purpose of gain.”.

Amendment of rule 27

4. Rule 27 of the principal Rules is amended —

(a)

by deleting paragraphs (1), (6), (14) and (15);

(b)

by deleting the words “public stand” wherever they appear in paragraphs (2) to (5), (7) to (13), (16) and (18) and substituting in each case the words “taxi stand”; and

(c)

by deleting the marginal note and inserting the following rule heading:

“Taxi stands and other public stands”.

Deletion of rules 36 and 36A

5. Rules 36 and 36A of the principal Rules are deleted.

Deletion of First Schedule

6. The First Schedule to the principal Rules is deleted.
