Women’s Charter (Registration of Marriages)
(Amendment No. 2) Rules 2000

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 180(1) of the Women’s Charter, the Minister for Community Development and Sports hereby makes the following Rules:

Citation and commencement

1. These Rules may be cited as the Women’s Charter (Registration of Marriages) (Amendment No. 2) Rules 2000 and shall come into operation on 1st October 2000.

Deletion and substitution of rule 5

2. Rule 5 of the Women’s Charter (Registration of Marriages) Rules (R 3) is deleted and the following rule substituted therefor:

“Fees for marriage licences

5.—(1) The following fees shall be payable to the Registrar for the issue of a marriage licence under section 17 of the Act:

(a)	where at least one party to the marriage is a citizen of Singapore and the marriage is to be solemnized by the Registrar — $26;
(b)	where at least one party to the marriage is a citizen of Singapore and the marriage is to be solemnized by a person licensed to do so under section 8(2) of the Act — $18; and
(c)	where both parties to the marriage are not citizens of Singapore — $80.

(2) Where both parties to the marriage are not citizens of Singapore, an additional fee of $100 shall be payable for an application for a special marriage solemnization date.

(3) A fee of $10 shall be payable for each application for a change of any marriage solemnization date.

(4) For the purpose of paragraph (2), “special marriage solemnization date” means such date as the Minister may determine.”.

Amendment of rule 14

3. Rule 14 of the Women’s Charter (Registration of Marriages) Rules is amended —

(a)

by deleting paragraph (1) and substituting the following paragraph:

“(1) The fee payable for a search or inspection of the register of marriages shall be —

(a)	$25 for a search through the Internet; and
(b)	$30 for a search or inspection carried out by any other means.”; and

(b)

by inserting, immediately before the word “inspection” in the rule heading and in paragraphs (2) and (3), the words “search or”.
