Singapore Academy of Law (Amendment) Rules 2008

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 27 of the Singapore Academy of Law Act, the Senate of the Singapore Academy of Law hereby makes the following Rules:

Citation and commencement

1. These Rules may be cited as the Singapore Academy of Law (Amendment) Rules 2008 and shall come into operation on 15th September 2008.

New rule 11A

2. The Singapore Academy of Law Rules (R 1) (referred to in these Rules as the principal Rules) are amended by inserting, immediately after rule 11, the following rule:

“Authentication of signature of notary public

11A.—(1) Every certificate for the authentication by the Academy of the signature of a notary public shall be signed by an officer of the Academy or an agent appointed by the Senate under section 24(4) of the Act.

(2) Every such certificate shall be sealed with the seal set out in the First Schedule.

(3) The fee payable to the Academy for the authentication by the Academy of the signature of a notary public shall be specified in the Second Schedule.”.

Amendment of rule 14

3. Rule 14 of the principal Rules is amended by deleting the words “the Schedule” in paragraphs (1) and (4) and substituting in each case the words “the Third Schedule”.

New First and Second Schedules

4. The principal Rules are amended by inserting, immediately after rule 24, the following Schedules:

Fees for Authentication of Signature of Notary Public

The fees payable to the Academy for the authentication by the Academy of the signature of a notary public shall be as follows:

(a)	$25, where the authentication certificate is to be collected after 2 p.m. of the next working day from the date of the request for authentication;
(b)	$75, where the authentication certificate is to be collected on the same working day as the date of the request for authentication.”.

Renaming of Schedule

5. The existing Schedule to the principal Rules is amended by renaming the Schedule as the Third Schedule.
