Legal Profession (Disciplinary Tribunal) (Amendment) Rules 2009

In exercise of the powers conferred by sections 82A(14) and 91(1) of the Legal Profession Act, we, the Rules Committee, hereby make the following Rules:

Citation and commencement

1. These Rules may be cited as the Legal Profession (Disciplinary Tribunal) (Amendment) Rules 2009 and shall come into operation on 9th October 2009.

Amendment of rule 2

2. Rule 2(1) of the Legal Profession (Disciplinary Tribunal) Rules 2008 (G.N. No. S 596/2008) (referred to in these Rules as the principal Rules) is amended by deleting the words “legal officer” wherever they appear in the definitions of “complainant”, “complaint” and “respondent” and substituting in each case the words “Legal Service Officer”.

Amendment of rule 5

3. Rule 5 of the principal Rules is amended —

(a)	by deleting the words “legal officer” wherever they appear and substituting in each case the words “Legal Service Officer”; and
(b)	by deleting the words “legal officers” in the rule heading and substituting the words “Legal Service Officers”.

Amendment of rule 19

4. Rule 19(1) of the principal Rules is amended by deleting the words “legal officer” in sub-paragraphs (b)(i) and (c)(i) and substituting in each case the words “Legal Service Officer”.

Amendment of rule 24

5. Rule 24(1) of the principal Rules is amended by deleting the words “legal officer” wherever they appear and substituting in each case the words “Legal Service Officer”.

Amendment of Schedule

6. The Schedule to the principal Rules is amended —

(a)	by deleting the words “LEGAL OFFICER” in Forms 2, 3 and 4 and substituting in each case the words “LEGAL SERVICE OFFICER”;
(b)	by deleting the words “Legal Officer” in paragraph 1 of Form 2 and substituting the words “Legal Service Officer”; and
(c)	by deleting the words “Legal Officer” in Form 3 and substituting the words “Legal Service Officer”.
