Singapore Academy of Law (Amendment) Rules 1996
In exercise of the powers conferred by section 26 of the Singapore Academy of Law Act, the Senate of the Academy hereby makes the following Rules:
1.  These Rules may be cited as the Singapore Academy of Law (Amendment) Rules 1996 and shall come into operation on 1st November 1996.
2.  Rule 3 of the Singapore Academy of Law Rules is amended —
(a)by deleting sub-paragraph (a) of paragraph (1) and substituting the following sub-paragraph:
(a)Fellows who are persons other than those mentioned in section 12 (c) and (d) of the Act    emsp;.. $1,000”; and
(b)by inserting, immediately after paragraph (1), the following paragraph:
(1A)  The annual subscriptions of persons who are Fellows of the Academy pursuant to section 12 (c) and (d) of the Act shall, unless otherwise directed by the Senate, be waived.”.

3.  Rule 11B of the Singapore Academy of Law Rules is amended by deleting paragraph (2) and substituting the following paragraph:
(2)  The Board shall have the power —
(a)to appoint and re-appoint commissioners for oaths and notaries public and to revoke or suspend existing appointments;
(b)to inquire into complaints against persons alleged to have acted in breach of the conditions of their appointments as commissioners for oaths or notaries public and where appropriate to revoke or suspend their appointments; and for the purpose of conducting such inquiries, the Board may establish its own practice and regulate its own procedure;
(c)to review the fees payable to commissioners for oaths and notaries public and, if the Board thinks fit, make recommendations to the Senate for amendments to such fees;
(d)to make recommendations to the appropriate authority for the enactment of new legislation or the amendment of existing legislation in relation to all matters concerning commissioners for oaths and notaries public; and
(e)to carry out such other duties as may be assigned by the Senate.”.
