Legal Profession (Practising Certificate) (Amendment) Rules 2008
In exercise of the powers conferred by section 25(7) and (8) of the Legal Profession Act, the Council of the Law Society of Singapore, with the approval of the Chief Justice, hereby makes the following Rules:
Citation and commencement
1.  These Rules may be cited as the Legal Profession (Practising Certificate) (Amendment) Rules 2008 and shall come into operation on 15th October 2008.
Deletion and substitution of rule 2
2.  Rule 2 of the Legal Profession (Practising Certificate) Rules (R 6) (referred to in these Rules as the principal Rules) is deleted and the following rule substituted therefor:
Practice year
2.  In these Rules, “practice year” means the period from 1st April in any calendar year to 31st March in the next ensuing calendar year.”.
Deletion of rule 4
3.  Rule 4 of the principal Rules is deleted.
Amendment of rule 4A
4.  Rule 4A of the principal Rules is amended by deleting paragraph (1) and substituting the following paragraph:
(1)  In the case of an application for a practising certificate to practise as a locum solicitor, section 25(1)(a) of the Act shall be modified by replacing sub-paragraphs (ii), (iii) and (iv) with the following sub-paragraphs:
(ii)the name of the Singapore law practice in which he is or will be practising, if he knows the name at the time of the application; and
(iii)the principal address, and every other address in Singapore, of the Singapore law practice in which he will be practising, if he knows the address or addresses at the time of the application;”(ii) the name of the Singapore law practice in which he is or will be practising, if he knows the name at the time of the application; and
Amendment of Schedule
5.  Form C of the Schedule to the principal Rules is amended by deleting the words “law firm, limited liability law partnership or law corporation” wherever they appear in sub-paragraph (iii) under the heading “THE SCHEDULE” and substituting in each case the words “Singapore law practice”.
