Public Transport Council Act

Bus Fares
It is hereby notified for general information that, under section 20(1) of the Public Transport Council Act, the Public Transport Council has approved, with effect from 6th November 1999, the following amendment to the Schedule to the Bus Fares Notification (N 2).
2.  The Bus Fares Notification is amended by inserting, immediately after the first paragraph, the following paragraph:
2.  In this Notification —
“LRT” is the abbreviation for the rapid transit system known as the Bukit Panjang Light Rapid Transit System;
“MRT” is the abbreviation for the rapid transit system known as the Mass Rapid Transit System;
“rapid transit system” means any railway set up under the Rapid Transit Systems Act (Cap. 263A) to meet the transport requirements of the public.”.
3.  The Schedule to the Bus Fares Notification is amended —
(a)by deleting the words “rapid transit system station” wherever they appear in the following paragraphs and substituting in each case the words “MRT station”:
Paragraphs 1(j)(i), (k) and (l) (4th and 5th lines) and 2 (i)(i), (j) and (k) (4th line);
(b)by deleting the words “a rapid transit system service” wherever they appear in the following paragraphs and substituting in each case the words “the MRT or LRT service”:
Paragraphs 4 (3rd line) and (e), 5 (3rd line) and (e), 6 (2nd line), (e) and (f), 7 (b) and 8 (1st and 2nd lines) and (e);
(c)by deleting the words “rapid transit system service” wherever they appear in the following paragraphs and substituting in each case the words “MRT or LRT service”:
Paragraphs 4(c), 5(c), 6(c), 7 (iii) and 8 (2nd and 3rd lines);
(d)by deleting the words “rapid transit system” wherever they appear in the following paragraphs and substituting in each case the words “MRT or LRT”:
Paragraphs 4(e) (2nd and 3rd lines), 5 (e) (2nd and 3rd lines), 6 (e) (2nd line) and 8 (e) (2nd and 3rd lines);
(e)by inserting, immediately after paragraph 8, the following paragraph:
8A.—(1)  Whenever a passenger makes a transfer between the LRT service and the MRT service, he shall be given a rebate of 25 cents if he pays for the whole of his journey using the same farecard, without leaving the paid area of the station, subject to the following conditions:
(a)if he is a child above 90 cm and below 1.2 metres in height or a primary, secondary, pre-university or full-time ITE student who is eligible to hold, and who is in possession of a valid concession card and pays for his journey using the appropriate farecard, the rebate shall be 10 cents;
(b)the rebate shall only apply to a maximum of 3 consecutive transfers in each journey; and
(c)the transfer must be made within 120 minutes of the start of the entire journey.
(2)  In paragraph (1), “paid area” means that part of the railway premises set aside for the use of fare-paying passengers and provided with ticket gates for the purposes of entry or exit.”;
(f)by inserting, immediately after the words “and (f)” in the 4th line of paragraph 9, the words “, or paragraph 8A(1)(c)”; and
(g)by deleting the words “or 8” in the last line of paragraph 9 and substituting the words “, 8 or 8A”.
