Martial Arts Instruction Act
(Chapter 171)
Martial Arts Instruction (Amendment No. 2) Regulations 1997
In exercise of the powers conferred by section 39 of the Martial Arts Instruction Act, the Minister for Home Affairs hereby makes the following Regulations:
Citation and commencement
1.  These Regulations may be cited as the Martial Arts Instruction (Amendment No. 2) Regulations 1997 and shall come into operation on 1st January 1998.
Amendment of regulation 5
2.  Regulation 5 of the Martial Arts Instruction Regulations (Rg 1) (referred to in these Regulations as the principal Regulations) is amended by deleting paragraph (4) and substituting the following paragraphs:
(4)  The registration of a person as a trainee under these Regulations is valid for 2 years and may be renewed for 2 years each time.
(5)  The fee payable for the initial registration of a trainee under these Regulations shall be $28 and for every renewal shall be $15.”.
Amendment of regulation 9
3.  Regulation 9 of the principal Regulations is amended by deleting paragraph (4) and substituting the following paragraphs:
(4)  The instructor’s certificate issued under this regulation is valid for 2 years and may be renewed for 2 years each time.
(5)  The fee payable for the initial issue of the instructor’s certificate shall be $120 and for every renewal shall be $20.”.
New regulation 13A
4.  The principal Regulations are amended by inserting, immediately after regulation 13, the following regulation:
13A.  An instructor shall not provide instruction in any form of martial arts to any trainee below the age of 12 years without the written consent of the trainee’s parent or guardian.”.
