Factories (Examination and Test of Steam Boilers) (Exemption) Order 2002
In exercise of the powers conferred by section 43 of the Factories Act, the Minister for Manpower hereby makes the following Order:
Citation and commencement
1.  This Order may be cited as the Factories (Examination and Test of Steam Boilers) (Exemption) Order 2002 and shall come into operation on 1st November 2002.
Steam boilers
2.  Every steam boiler —
(a)which uses electricity as the only form of power;
(b)which has a maximum steam volume of not more than 40 litres and a safe working pressure of not more than 4 bars; and
(c)in which water is fed manually into the steam boiler at the start of the steam generation process and cannot be fed continuously from a potable water main,
shall be exempted from section 36 (2)(a)(iv), (b) and (c), (8) and (14)(d) of the Act, subject to the following conditions:
(i)the steam boiler and all its fittings and attachments shall be thoroughly examined by an authorised boiler inspector at least once in every period of 24 months and also after any extensive repair; and
(ii)the surface of the external shell of the steam boiler shall be examined by an authorised boiler inspector at least once in every period of 72 months, and for the purpose of such examination, the insulation on the shell shall be removed completely.
