Merchant Shipping Act
(Chapter 179)
Merchant Shipping (Prevention of Collisions At Sea) (Amendment) Regulations 2009
In exercise of the powers conferred by section 100 of the Merchant Shipping Act, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore, with the approval of the Minister for Transport, hereby makes the following Regulations:
Citation and commencement
1.  These Regulations may be cited as the Merchant Shipping (Prevention of Collisions at Sea) (Amendment) Regulations 2009 and shall come into operation on 1st December 2009.
Amendment of regulation 3
2.  Regulation 3 of the Merchant Shipping (Prevention of Collisions at Sea) Regulations (Rg 10) is amended by deleting the words “and 29th November 2001” and substituting the words “, 29th November 2001 and 29th November 2007”.
Amendment of Schedule
3.  Annex IV of the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea 1972 as set out in the Schedule to the Merchant Shipping (Prevention of Collisions at Sea) Regulations is amended —
(a)by deleting paragraphs (l) and (m) of section 1 and substituting the following paragraphs:
(l)a distress alert by means of digital selective calling (DSC) transmitted on —
(i)VHF channel 70; or
(ii)MF/HF on the frequencies 2187.5 kHz, 8414.5 kHz, 4207.5 kHz, 6312 kHz, 12577 kHz or 16804.5 kHz;
(m)a ship-to-shore distress alert transmitted by the ship’s Inmarsat or other mobile satellite service provider ship earth station;”; and
(b)by deleting the words “Merchant Ship Search and Rescue Manual” in section 3 and substituting the words “International Aeronautical and Maritime Search and Rescue Manual, Volume III”.
