Administration of Muslim Law (Halal Certificates) (Amendment No. 2) Rules 2009

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 88C of the Administration of Muslim Law Act, the Majlis Ugama Islam, Singapura, with the approval of the Minister for the Environment and Water Resources, charged with the responsibility for the portfolio of the Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports (G.N. No. S 323/2006), hereby makes the following Rules:

Citation and commencement

1. These Rules may be cited as the Administration of Muslim Law (Halal Certificates) (Amendment No. 2) Rules 2009 and shall come into operation on 1st December 2009.

Amendment of rule 2

2. Rule 2 of the Administration of Muslim Law (Halal Certificates) Rules (R 8) is amended by inserting, immediately after the definition of “catering establishment”, the following definition:

“ “product processing facility” means any place or premises or any part thereof (not being a catering establishment) used for the manufacturing, processing, preparation, storage or packing of products for the purpose of distribution to wholesalers and retailers or for export;”.

Amendment of Schedule

3. The Schedule to the Administration of Muslim Law (Halal Certificates) Rules is amended by inserting, immediately after item 5, the following item:

“

5A. Operation of a product processing facility:

(a) issue of a halal certificate for a period of one year for any premises not exceeding 200 square metres

(b) issue of a halal certificate for a period of one year for any premises exceeding 200 square metres but not exceeding 750 square metres

$720

(c) issue of a halal certificate for a period of one year for any premises exceeding 750 square metres but not exceeding 2,000 square metres

$810

(d) issue of a halal certificate for a period of one year for any premises exceeding 2,000 square metres

$1,800

(e) use of a halal certification mark for each type or brand of a product manufactured, processed, prepared, stored or packed at the facility

$20 per product type or brand

”.
