Singapore Armed Forces Overseas Service Medal Rules 1973 |

1. These Rules may be cited as the Singapore Armed Forces Overseas Service Medal Rules, 1973 and shall be deemed to have come into operation on 26th day of January, 1973. |
3. The qualifying conditions for the award shall be as follows:—

4.—(1) If the operational qualifying service described in these Rules is brought to an end before the completion of the qualifying period on account of death, evacuation owing to wounds, or other disability due to service, the reduced period of service shall be sufficient qualification for the award.

5. The Medal shall be awarded by the Director of Manpower. |
6. The names of the persons to whom the Medal is awarded shall be published in Formation/Unit orders and a register of such names shall be kept in the Ministry of Defence. |
7. Where a Medal or Bar is lost or destroyed and it is desired to replace it, a statutory declaration by the person to whom the Medal or Bar was awarded stating the circumstances under which the loss or destruction occurred, his rank, name and the unit to which he belongs shall be forwarded to the Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Defence through the usual channels of correspondence in the case of a serving member, and in the case of a person who has retired direct to the Permanent Secretary. If the explanation as to the loss or destruction is considered satisfactory, the Medal or Bar shall be replaced on payment made by the recipient to cover the cost thereof. |
8. The Medal shall be of cupronickel one and three-eights inches in diameter consisting of a five-rayed cross with double points, radiating from a circle of fifteen-sixteenths of an inch in diameter, having on the obverse side the Singapore Coat-of-Arms encircled by the inscription “TENTERA SINGAPURA”, and further encircled by a laurel wreath beneath which shall be a scroll bearing the inscription “YANG PERTAMA DAN UTAMA”. On the reverse side shall be a small star encircled by the inscription “FOR OVERSEAS SERVICE” enclosed in a pentagon. |
9. The Medal shall be worn on the left side of the outer garment suspended by a purple ribbon one and three-tenths inches in width and two inches in length. The ribbon shall be of the following description:—

10. The Bar shall be of cupronickel and be one and three-tenths inches in length and one-fourth of an inch in width, with a laureated border and bearing the name of the country where service was performed and the year. |
11. The Medal shall be of the design set out in Schedule A and Schedule B to these Rules. |
