Road Traffic (Parking of Heavy Vehicles) Rules 2006

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 34(r) of the Road Traffic Act, the Minister for Transport hereby makes the following Rules:

Citation and commencement

1. These Rules may be cited as the Road Traffic (Parking of Heavy Vehicles) Rules 2006 and shall come into operation on 1st February 2006.

Definitions

2. In these Rules, unless the context otherwise requires —

“building” has the same meaning as in section 2(1) of the Building Control Act (Cap. 29);

“building works” means —

(a)	the erection, extension or demolition of a building; or
(b)	the alteration, addition or repair of a building,

and includes site formation works and any other kind of building operation connected with or carried out for the purpose of paragraph (a) or (b);

“designated parking space”, in relation to a heavy vehicle, means the designated parking space for the time being procured for the parking of the heavy vehicle under the Parking Places Act (Cap. 214);

“specified period” means the period between midnight and 6 a.m. of any day;

“street works” has the same meaning as in section 2 of the Street Works Act (Cap. 320A).

Restriction on parking of heavy vehicles

3.—(1) Subject to paragraph (2), no person shall, at any time during the specified period, park a heavy vehicle in any place other than the designated parking space.

(2) Paragraph (1) shall not apply if the heavy vehicle is parked, at any time during the specified period, in any place other than the designated parking space —

(a)	for the purpose of taking up or setting down goods; or
(b)	at or near a place where building works or street works are being carried out for use in respect of those works.
