Legal Profession (Amendment No. 3) Rules 2009

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 5(3) and (4) of the Legal Profession Act, the Board of Legal Education hereby makes the following Rules:

Citation and commencement

1. These Rules may be cited as the Legal Profession (Amendment No. 3) Rules 2009 and shall come into operation on 18th December 2009.

Amendment of rule 12

2. Rule 12 of the Legal Profession Rules (R 3) is amended —

(a)

by deleting sub-paragraph (b) of paragraph (1) and substituting the following sub-paragraph:

“(b)	produce to the Board such document or documents relating to the qualification by virtue of which he claims to be a qualified person as the Board may require;”; and

(b)

by deleting paragraphs (2) and (3) and substituting the following paragraphs:

“(2) When the Board has given its approval of the manner in which a qualified person is to serve his practice training period, the Secretary shall enter in a register of qualified persons —

(a)	the name of the qualified person;
(b)	the date of the production of the document or documents referred to in paragraph (1)(b); and
(c)	such particulars referred to in paragraph (1)(c)(ii)(A), (B) or (C) as may be applicable to the qualified person.

(3) The fee payable on registration shall be $107 (inclusive of the goods and services tax chargeable under the Goods and Services Tax Act (Cap. 117A)).”.
