Merchant Shipping Act 1995

Merchant Shipping (Marine Engineer Officers) (Amendment) Regulations 1996
In exercise of the powers conferred by section 47 of the Merchant Shipping Act 1995, the Minister for Communications hereby makes the following Regulations:
1.  These Regulations may be cited as the Merchant Shipping (Marine Engineer Officers) (Amendment) Regulations 1996 and shall come into operation on 2nd February 1996.
2.  Regulation 7(2)(a) of the Merchant Shipping (Marine Engineer Officers) Regulations 1994 is amended by inserting, immediately after the word “certificate is” in the third line, the words “to be”.

3.  Regulation 12 of the Merchant Shipping (Marine Engineer Officers) Regulations 1994 is deleted and the following regulation substituted therefor:
Fraud or misrepresentation
12.  Any person who, in connection with an application for or the issue of a certificate of competency or in connection with the endorsement, or extension of the validity of a certificate of competency or certificate of service, makes a statement which he knows to be false or recklessly makes a statement which is false shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $5,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 2 years or to both.”.
