In exercise of the powers conferred by sections 32(3) and 49 of the Coroners Act 2010, the Minister for Law hereby makes the following Regulations:
Citation and commencement
1.  These Regulations may be cited as the Coroners (Remuneration of Assessors) Regulations 2010 and shall come into operation on 2nd January 2011.
2.  In these Regulations, unless the context otherwise requires —
“assessor” means an assessor appointed under section 32 of the Act to assist a Coroner in the hearing of any inquiry;
“attendance in court”, in relation to an assessor, means the attendance of the assessor with a Coroner in the hearing of an inquiry or at any pre-inquiry review;
“authorising officer” means the State Coroner or the Coroner hearing the inquiry for which the assessor was appointed.
Remuneration of assessors
3.—(1)  An assessor shall be remunerated at the rate of $100 per hour or part thereof, for his attendance in court and for work done to assist the Coroner in connection with an inquiry, subject to a maximum of $700 per day.
(2)  An assessor shall, in addition to paragraph (1), be paid a transport allowance under regulation 4.
Transport allowance
4.  An assessor may be allowed for each day’s attendance in court a fixed sum, not exceeding $20, as the authorising officer thinks fit, as transport allowance for travel between the place where his attendance is required and his place of stay in Singapore, regardless of the mode of transport actually used or the actual expense or charge incurred for the transport.
Time for submission of claims
5.  An assessor must submit his claim in respect of his remuneration (including the transport allowance) to the authorising officer in such form as the authorising officer may require no later than 2 months after accrual of the claim.
Discretion of authorising officer to disallow claims
6.  The authorising officer may disallow any claim or part thereof which, in his view, is unreasonable or which has been unnecessarily incurred.
Certification of remuneration
7.  Where the authorising officer approves the remuneration to be paid to an assessor under these Regulations, the authorising officer shall issue a certificate certifying the sum to be paid to the assessor.

Made this 23rd day of December 2010.
